As chicks we all dread that monthly “visitor”! It’s life! We’ve dealt with it, and will continue to do so for as long as she decides she will show her ugly face! Lol

What does PMS and your period mean for your hair and skin???

The levels of estrogen decrease and the levels of progesterone and testosterone increase about a week before your period, this leads to increased oil production in the skin glands.

This is apparent on our faces, and is why premenstrual breakouts are so common. Glands on the scalp also increase oil production, which, for some women, makes hair look and feel oily and stringy in the days leading up to the menses. These are the days when dry shampoo is your BFF, and when you should take more frequent showers. Believe it or not, it’s also an ideal time to dye your hair because of increased oil production you will have significantly less damage from the dye/bleach. (something good comes out of PMS)

Also, did you know that during your period, you metabolism increases by 10% (SCORE) This means you burn roughly a whopping 250 extra calories a day! Whilst you’re burning more, you’re craving more carbs! Damn it! This is because your serotonin levels also drop and serotonin is created in the body using carbs! The struggle is real in this vicious cycle!!

Serotonin is also the chemical in our bodies that stabilizes our mood. So yes, you have an excuse to be a bi-polar psychotic bitch! Lol. It also helps produce healthy sleeping patterns. Insomnia much?? It’s the story of my life, sister! Serotonin is synthesized from the amino acid tryptophan (which Hair Minerals contains this amino acid, just saying) so, the common belief is that by eating foods high tryptophan, you can boost your serotonin levels.

So what should you eat that will increase serotonin, yet make you feel satisfied you ask? Well, I have listed some out for you.

foods

  1. Eggs (high protein, too)
  2. Cheese
  3. Pineapples
  4. Tofu (grill with cherry tomatoes, zucchini, onion, and red bell peppers) this is a kebob to die for!
  5. Salmon
  6. Nuts and seeds (just a handful will do)
  7. Turkey (then a nap)

This should be helpful for your overall mood and it doesn’t hurt you while stepping on the scale. Of course you still may see that you have an extra lb or 5, but that’s bloat and water weight and that is just one bitch that I can’t crack. As you know this too shall pass.

Don’t forget, you’re human eat the damn chocolate bar if you want, just not 4 of them!
